Overview of containment measures for genetically modified plants

When working with genetically modified (GM) plants in greenhouses and propagation facilities (i.e. contained use), it is essential to prevent the spread of transgenes into the environment, for example via seed or pollen. The measures required to prevent the spread of transgenes are determined based on the biological characteristics of the plant species in question.
COGEM regularly updates the list of containment measures, adding any new plant species and associated measures from recent advice it has issued. This advice adds ten seed plant species and four spore-bearing plant species to the list. Additionally, the taxonomy of the plant species has been reviewed and updated where necessary to reflect the current state of knowledge.
