Advice Import & processing of GM soybean MON 94637 × MON 87751 × MON 87701 × MON 94313 × MON 89788

  • COGEM is asked to advise on the potential environmental risks of importing and processing genetically modified (GM) soybeans MON 94637 × MON 87751 × MON 87701 × MON 94313 × MON 89788;
  • MON 94637 × MON 87751 × MON 87701 × MON 94313 × MON 89788 is a conventional cross between the GM soybean parental lines MON 94637, MON 87751, MON 87701, MON 94313, and MON 89788;
  • In this stacked event, genes are expressed that confer resistance to certain pests and tolerance to various herbicides;
  • COGEM previously approved the import and processing of the five parental lines;
  • There are no feral soybean populations in the Netherlands, and no wild relatives are present;
  • The molecular characterisation meets the criteria of COGEM. There are no indications that the introduced traits allow the stacked event soybean MON 94637 × MON 87751 × MON 87701 × MON 94313 × MON 89788 to survive in the Netherlands;
  • COGEM is of the opinion that import and processing of GM soybean MON 94637 × MON 87751 × MON 87701 × MON 94313 × MON 89788 poses a negligible risk to the environment in the Netherlands.
