Technological developments in biotechnology and genetic modification are advancing rapidly. This is despite the fact that genetic modification is strictly regulated. COGEM has repeatedly stated that the current regulations are outdated and no longer in line with scientific and technological developments. The European Commission has also concluded that the current regulations on genetically modified organisms are “no longer fit for purpose”. The research report “Grey areas in the regulation of green and red biotechnology” shows which building blocks our legal system offers to deal resiliently with the rapidly changing reality.
