Request for advice on the import and processing of GM maize MON87427 × MON94804 × MON95379 × MIR162 × MON88017

The COGEM is asked to advise on the environmental safety aspects of the import and processing of genetically modified (GM) maize MON87427 × MON94804 × MON95379 × MIR162 × MON88017, and its subcombinations. This maize line was created through conventional crossing of parental GM maize lines, which have previously been assessed and authorized for the European market for import and processing. In this hybrid line, genes are expressed that provide tolerance to various herbicides and resistance to certain pest insects. In addition, the stem contains less gibberellic acid, which makes the plants shorter than normal.
