Application for the authorisation for import and processing of genetically modified maize MON 87427 × MON 94804 × MON 89034 × MIR162 × NK603
COGEM has been asked to advise on the environmental risks of import and processing of genetically modified (GM) maize MON 87427, MON 94804, MON 89034, MIR162 en NK603. This stacked GM maize line was produced by conventional crossbreeding of the five GM parental maize lines. Previously, COGEM has advised positively on the import and processing of all parental lines. The GM maize expresses proteins which confer resistance against certain lepidopteran pests and proteins which confer resistance to certain herbicides. Furthermore, this maize line expresses an miRNA transcript, which reduces the expression of gibberellic acid in the plant’s stem. As a result, maize plants from this crossbreed are shorter than normal.
