Additional advice on the renewal of the authorization for mport and processing of GM maize MON89034 in response to EFSA opinion

EFSA recently published its opinion on the renewal of the authorization for import and processing of GM maize 89034. MON89034 is resistant to certain lepidopteran insects. Upon publication of the EFSA opinion, COGEM was asked whether its previous concerns have been sufficiently addressed by EFSA.  In its previous advice COGEM noted that no new sequence information was provided by the applicant, and that the monitoring report from the year 2012 was missing. Provided that the sequence of MON89034 at time of renewal was identical to the original event sequence, and the monitoring report from 2012 did not contain reports of adverse effects or incidents, COGEM concluded that import and processing of MON89034 poses a negligible risk to the environment in the Netherlands.
