Pathogens of nematodes

COGEM is often asked to classify micro-organisms in one of the four pathogenicity classes. This classification is based on the (a)pathogenicity of the micro-organism to humans, animals and plants.
To broaden its knowledge base on pathogenicity to nematodes (roundworms) COGEM commissioned a research project.
The resulting report (written by Biotech Microbials BV) gives an overview of the available information on bacterial, fungal and viral nematode pathogens. Information is provided on pathogenic species, and on their infection mechanisms and virulence factors (if these are known). The report also discusses potential effects of the introduction of pathogens on nematode populations under natural conditions. Methods that can be used to study nematode pathogenicity and indications for true nematode pathogenicity are described as well.
