Application for renewal of the authorisation for import and processing of genetically modified (GM) cotton MON 15985

COGEM has been asked to advise on a renewal of an application for the import and processing of genetically modified (GM) cotton MON 15985. This GM cotton contains the cry1Ac and cry2Ab2 genes, making the plant resistant to certain insect pests. In addition, MON 15985 contains the nptII and uidA genes to facilitate selection of transformed cells.
Because the import permit will soon expire, the applicant has requested a renewal of the permit and COGEM has been asked to advise on the environmental safety aspects of the renewed application.
