COGEM has a modest budget to commission research to support and improve its advisory role. The focal points of the research programme are developments in the deliberate release of GMOs, improving the methodology of risk analysis, identifying and categorising ethical and societal issues relating to gene technology, and identifying new scientific developments and trends.
